At Learn and Play Preschool, we integrate early concepts of language arts, math, science, social studies, writing, phonics, letter and number recognition, patterns, rhyming, and foundational computer skills through cross-curricular activities. Our students enter kindergarten confident, curious, and well-prepared. We also believe that abundant outdoor play, creative exploration, and restful downtime are essential to supporting happy, engaged, and successful learners.
A printing and cursive curricula, HWT readiness curriculum includes three complete programs: Readiness & Writing teaches foundation skills, Language & Literacy uses hands-on strategies to make lessons come alive and math concepts are fun for children in the Numbers & Math portion. HWT has been adopted by the Texas State Board of Education, meets TEKS standards for Language Arts and is currently being used in RRISD elementary schools.
Is a comprehensive approach to understanding how sensory integration and motor control drives learning, and therefore the performance, of our children. RBLM provides children with a strong foundation of the basic knowledge and use of their bodies. As they grow and develop, certain skills will need to become automatic. If their reflexive system is developed, then as babies, crawling and walking will become automatic. If their vestibular system is developed, then equilibrium while sitting in a chair becomes automatic. If their proprioceptive and tactile systems are developed, then the ability to control the movements of their hand and a pencil becomes automatic. If their visual and auditory systems are developed, the information they see and hear can be used automatically to successfully develop higher level skills.
Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support whole-child growth. We introduce early academic skills across language arts, math, science, and social studies through hands-on, play-based learning experiences that are both engaging and developmentally appropriate. Students build early literacy through phonics, rhyming, and letter recognition; develop number sense through counting, patterning, and problem-solving; and explore the world around them through nature-based science, guided discovery, and foundational technology use.
Equally important to academic readiness is the development of social-emotional and behavioral skills. At Learn and Play Preschool, we intentionally teach independence, responsibility, and self-regulation. Children are encouraged to care for their belongings, follow routines, and solve problems with confidence. We guide students to use kind words, listen respectfully, ask for help, and navigate conflict peacefully.
Daily instruction includes practice in:
• Making respectful choices and understanding natural consequences
• Taking turns and practicing patience
• Following multi-step directions
• Working independently and as part of a group
• Taking initiative in classroom responsibilities (cleaning up, organizing materials)
• Advocating for themselves in a respectful, assertive manner
Through consistent teacher support, modeling, and positive reinforcement, our students learn what it means to be respectful, helpful, safe, and responsible members of a classroom community.
We believe that these combined academic and character-based skills are critical for kindergarten readiness and form the foundation for a joyful and successful school experience.
